With Al-Tamari’s Assist, Rennes Defeat Marseille to Move Top of Ligue 1

Al-Taj News – Jordanian international Mousa Al-Tamari, who plays for French club Stade Rennes, provided the assist for his team’s 1-0 victory over Marseille on Friday in the opening match of the fourth round of the French Football League.

Al-Tamari contributed to the only goal of the match in the 52nd minute, sending a header to Adrien Thomasson, who followed it into the net to give Rennes their third victory of the season.

Thomasson nearly added a second goal, but his shot hit the crossbar, while Marseille failed to capitalize on the chances that came their way, suffering their third consecutive defeat.

Rennes raised their tally to 10 points from three wins and a draw, temporarily moving top of the league, one point ahead of Monaco, who host Strasbourg on Saturday, while Marseille remained on 3 points in 11th place.

Marseille had opened the season with a big 4-0 win over Strasbourg, but then lost their next three matches amid difficulties in strengthening their squad during the summer transfer window, following the departure of several key players, including their English top scorer Mason Greenwood and Dutch midfielder Quinten Timber.

Marseille appointed Bruno Genesio as their new coach, arriving from Lille, but he currently relies on a squad that includes players who were on the fringes of the team last season, along with others returning from loan spells.

Marseille face two difficult matches next, away against Turkish side Besiktas in the UEFA Europa League, followed by a home match against Paris Saint-Germain.
